TOEFL iBT Update: New Format from May 15, 2025!

Good news for test-takers in India! The TOEFL iBT has a new, more streamlined format. The Reading section now includes only 2 passages with 10 questions each, instead of the previous 3-4 passages. This reduces the total reading time to 35 minutes, compared to the earlier 54-72 minutes—a significant change!

While the test still assesses your English proficiency for studying abroad, this update allows you to focus on a smaller amount of material, making preparation more efficient. Stay updated and adjust your study strategy accordingly!

TOEFL Exam Structure & Types

1. TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Test)

The most common TOEFL format, taken on a computer at an authorized test center. It consists of:

Reading: Two passages with academic content.

Writing: Essay writing and response tasks.

2. TOEFL PBT (Paper-Based Test)

A major change has been introduced to simplify the Reading section:
Instead of 3-4 long passages, there are now only 2 passages with 10 questions each.

Eligibility for TOEFL 2025

Anyone can take the TOEFL in 2025, regardless of age or education level. However, it's most suitable for students planning to study at English-speaking universities, which usually require a high school qualification (10+2 in India).

Age Limit: There is no strict age limit, but those under 18 need parental or guardian consent to register.
Academic Qualification: No specific requirement, but having completed 10+2 is beneficial since most universities expect this.
